Get to Know Me on my Journey from Mountains to Motherhood

Hey, I’m Carissa! A former peak bagger, now full-time mama and teacher, part-time adventurer, and always chasing fresh air (with a baby strapped to me and a dog at my heels). This blog is about my journey from mountains to motherhood with all the triumphs and challenges along the way!
I didn’t grow up in the mountains. I grew up just outside New York City, where “adventure” looked more like backyard games and neighborhood games of manhunt. But thanks to my childhood wilderness camp and a mom who believed in the power of fresh air, I fell in love with the outdoors early on—and never really let go.
In my twenties, I discovered hiking in a big way and set a goal to summit all 48 of New Hampshire’s 4,000-footers. Somewhere between the rocky trails and muddy boots, I found confidence, clarity, and a deep connection with nature. The mountains became my sanctuary—and my proving ground.

This blog was born from a detour—one I never saw coming. In 2020, during the COVID pandemic, my wedding got postponed and so we bought a camper trailer. We traveled to many places over the years including a cross-country road trip. What started as a plan B turned into one of the best years of our life. The open road gave us freedom, healing, and a spark of something bigger we wanted to build together. We eventually got married and adopted a dog and…
Then I became a mom.
Suddenly, the summit looked a lot different. The trails were harder to find. The gear took longer to pack. And honestly? I didn’t always feel like I belonged out there anymore. Motherhood flipped my world upside down—in beautiful, exhausting, overwhelming ways.

But here’s the thing: I don’t believe we have to choose between being outdoorsy and being moms. I believe in the messy middle, the nap-time outside, the roadside nursing session, and the “I can’t believe we did that” moments. I believe in rediscovering yourself through motherhood, not losing yourself to it. You can read more about my shift from mountains to motherhood here.
This space is for the in-between. It’s for women navigating the wild ride of motherhood and still hearing the mountains call. It’s for the moms who want to hike, camp, snowboard, and wander—but don’t always know how to make it work with a little one (or just need someone to say, “you can do it”).
When I’m not adventuring, you can find me teaching high school students or making spreadsheets for one of my many side hustles. I love supporting people as they find their own strength—whether it’s in the classroom, out on the trail or through the computer.
As a family, we dream of hitting the open road in our camper van, exploring new places, and making memories along the way. It’s all part of the bigger journey from mountains to motherhood.
Whether you’re here for trail tips, babywearing gear recs, or just to feel seen—I’m so glad you’re here.
We’re all on our own path from mountains to motherhood… and back again.
