Our trip was filled with incredible adventures, from attending the Sam Hunt Outskirts tour at the PNC Pavilion to exploring the most Instagram-worthy locations in town. Here is a list of some of our favorites.

Music and Entertainment:

One of the unforgettable experiences during our visit was attending the Sam Hunt Outskirts tour at the PNC Pavilion. The energy was contagious, and we found ourselves singing along to all our favorite hits. The Charlotte Rail Trail is a 11-mile hub of creativity and urban art and will bring though a good portion of the city. Although it was too hot to do the whole walk, we did take take a moment to appreciate some great murals along the route, including this Magic Carpet Mural which is part of a 3-part series. It is a vibrant masterpiece that adds a burst of color to the surrounding area in uptown. Its large size and intricate details make it a captivating background for photos that will surely leave a lasting impression on your Instagram feed.

Notable Eateries

Our taste buds were in for a treat during our time in Charlotte. We explored some hidden gems, tucked away in the charming neighborhoods, that served up delectable dishes with a local touch. From classic comfort food to the cute coffee houses, the culinary scene in Charlotte impressed us with its diversity and flavors. I’ll note here that I was 4 months pregnant and was picky about food during this time and was also not looking for much of a night season , because sleep is important, but here are some of our favorites:

  1. Waterbean Coffee – This is a small chain in the North Carolina area but still has great coffee and great vegan muffins!
  2. North Italia – Cute and modern Italian restaurant in the heart of south end!
  3. Optimist Hall – Vibrant and repurposed historic textile mill turned food hall, where a culinary and cultural journey awaits around every corner.
  4. Jeremiah’s Italian Ice – Perfect after a hot afternoon with so many flavors and combos to choose from!
  5. Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams – You can smell this place from so far away, and their ice cream does not disappoint!
  6. Seemingly Overzealous Ice Cream – The best vegan and gluten free ice cream!

Lake Norman & Exploring Davidson

When we wanted to escape the bustling city and immerse ourselves in nature, Lake Norman came to the rescue. The picturesque lake offered a serene retreat, perfect for relaxation and outdoor activities. We spent a peaceful morning by the water, basking in the beauty of the surrounding landscape and even went for a dip. There are also many different hiking and nature trails although we did not take advantage due to the heat. For nature lovers and water enthusiasts, Lake Norman is a must-visit destination near Charlotte.

After soaking up the sun for a bit, we got hungry and it we headed over to explore the small town of Davidson. Davidson is a charming and historic town that offers a unique blend of small-town allure and modern sophistication. The town is known for its well-preserved Main Street, which is lined with quaint shops, cafes, and local boutiques. The Davidson College campus, with its elegant architecture and lush green spaces, is a prominent feature of the town and adds to its intellectual and cultural vibrancy. A visit to Davidson isn’t just a glimpse into the past; it’s an experience of Southern hospitality, scenic beauty, and a warm, tight-knit community that makes you feel right at home. We enjoyed a nice acai bowl at Rico’s Acai.
