There’s nothing quite like hitting the trails (or road) with my adventure buddy, Haley! 🐾 Running together is a great way to keep us both active and spend quality time outdoors. But, as anyone who runs with a dog knows, the right gear can make all the difference! Today, I’m excited to share our must-have gear from Ruffwear: the Front Range Harness for Haley and the Running Belt for me. If you’re looking for a great hiking setup, too, check out our review of the Ruffwear Dog Backpack, another game-changer for outdoor adventures.
The Front Range Harness for Dogs
One of the best things about Ruffwear’s Front Range Harness is how comfortable it is for Haley, while also giving me reliable control. Here’s what makes it stand out:
Padded Panels: The harness has padding on the chest and belly, which keeps it comfortable for longer outings and reduces any rubbing or irritation.
Two Attachment Points: I love the flexibility of having two leash attachment options—a V-ring on the back for regular runs and a reinforced loop on the chest to help reduce pulling when we’re tackling more crowded areas.
Easy to Put On: Haley doesn’t love standing still for too long, but this harness is easy to slip on and adjust quickly, so we’re out the door in no time.
With its thoughtful design, the Front Range Harness keeps Haley both secure and comfortable, which means more fun for both of us!
The Ruffwear Running Belt & Leash for Hands-Free Control
For me, the Running Belt from Ruffwear has been a huge upgrade from a traditional leash. Running with a hands-free leash not only makes the experience more enjoyable, but it also helps me keep my stride and stay balanced. Here are the features I’ve come to rely on:
Hands-Free Leash Attachment: The leash clips to the belt, which means I can use my hands freely for balance or quick gear adjustments.
Storage Space: The belt has a secure pocket for small essentials like my phone, keys, and even a snack.
Bungee Leash: The leash attachment has a stretchy, bungee-style section that absorbs any quick pulls. If Haley gets excited or slows down, the leash doesn’t jerk us around.
This belt setup makes our runs feel smoother and more in sync. Plus, it’s incredibly durable and comfortable for long distances, so we can cover as many miles as we want without missing a beat.
Other Running Essentials:
Collapsible Water Bowl
Staying hydrated is crucial, especially on longer or warmer runs. I carry a lightweight, collapsible water bowl that’s easy to pop out for Haley whenever she needs a drink. Ruffwear’s Trail Runner™ Bowl is a great option because it’s compact and packs down small, fitting easily into the running belt pocket.
LED Collar Light
For early morning or evening runs, visibility is key. I use an LED collar light to make sure Haley is always visible, even in low light. Ruffwear’s Beacon™ Safety Light clips easily onto her harness and has multiple brightness settings to keep her seen and safe.
Cooling Neck Gaiter
When the weather heats up, keeping Haley cool is a priority. Ruffwear’s Swamp Cooler Cooling Neck Gaiter is designed to keep dogs comfortable by using evaporative cooling. Simply soak it in water, wring it out, and let it work its magic. This cooling neck gaiter is perfect for sunny days, helping to keep Haley’s temperature down and energy up.
Running with Haley is one of the highlights of my day, and having the right gear makes each outing safer, smoother, and so much more enjoyable for both of us. These items help us tackle every run with confidence and comfort. If you’re considering gearing up for runs with your own dog, I can’t recommend these essentials enough—they’ve been absolute game-changers for us! So, grab your favorite running buddy, explore some trails, and enjoy the adventure. Happy running!
