About Me
Hi! My name is Carissa, and I love going on adventures! My week starts by teaching in the classroom or house parenting and ends with exciting weekend getaways. I live for the weekends spent in the mountains, with no care in the world except where my feet are taking me! My passions include hiking, snowboarding, and I’ve recently begun dabbling in surfing, wakeboarding, mountain biking, and more!
I grew up on Long Island but somehow find myself living in Massachusetts. I like to think I was born to live in New England, but I also found a home in Scotland, where I studied abroad in college.
When I’m not teaching, coaching, or hiking, you can find me exploring new places, both domestically and abroad. I have a map of the countries I’ve visited and feel that I haven’t seen enough, so my goal is to experience more of what the world has to offer. The photo to the right was taken on my last trip abroad in August 2019 when I skydived in Interlaken, Switzerland—definitely one of the best days of my life!
Camper Adventures
After postponing our wedding in 2020, my husband, Derrick, and I bought a Taxa Tiger Moth, which has been perfect for all our adventures in New England and beyond. We even road-tripped to Las Vegas one break!
Adventures with a Puppy
In August 2022, our lives changed even more when we adopted a 10-week-old Samoyed puppy to join us on our adventures! Becoming a mom to this energetic pup has brought so much joy and excitement to our lives, and I love sharing these new experiences. She loves a good backpacking trip or snowshoe!
Classroom Adventures with Carissa
I have been a math teacher since 2016 at a school for students with Language-Based Learning Differences. Alongside my adventures, I’ve started sharing some of my teaching journey and the math resources I’ve created to support fellow educators.
Entering into Motherhood
Then in January 2024, I welcomed my daughter into the world, which has been the most transformative adventure yet. Motherhood has opened up a new chapter filled with love, discovery, and the joy of introducing my little one to the wonders of the great outdoors.
